The Achilles Tendon attaches the calf to the heel bone. It can become inflamed if it is repeatedly contacting out of alignment. This can occur if the arch of your foot has dropped and your heel has edged slightly sideways.
It is extremely painful to walk and run, and if it turns into a long standing condition, the tissues around it becomes thickened.
Physiotherapy can help, firstly reduce the swelling and pain, then to start you on exercises to rebuild the cells of the tendon. It is very important to alter your heel alignment with your Chartered Physiotherapists help.
Recent research has shown that it can be a slow process as the tissues of the tendon take a good while to recover, but by doing the recommended exercises and abiding by the advice, recovery can occur.
