Orthotics are insoles placed in your shoes. They support the arches of the feet and their aim is to relieve pain and get your feet functioning well.. Some are custom made and some are ‘off the shelf’. Your Chartered Physiotherapist will outline what’s best for you, depending on what your problem is. Custom made orthotics are designed from impressions taken of your feet.

Orthotics can help to reduce pain not only in arches of the feet but can also relieve aches and pains further up body for instance in the knees and back. It is important to have the correct prescription for the orthotics, to realign and support the correct area and to be appropriate for what activity you are doing. There are different types of orthotics for different types of shoes, and for different age groups. They will even fit into boots and high heels!
